Parent company & subsidiaries
A subsidiary company or daughter company is a company that is owned or controlled by another company, which is called the parent company. Subsidiaries are separate, distinct legal entities for the purposes of taxation, regulation and liability.
A subsidiary is one entity. This entity is composed of various business units which run the subsidiary company.
Taimer allows you to create multiple tiered subsidiaries. For example, a first-tier subsidiary is a subsidiary/daughter company of the ultimate parent company, while a second-tier subsidiary is a subsidiary of a first-tier subsidiary.
Main unit & subunits
A business unit is a division, department or functional area within a company/subsidiary responsible for a specific corporate activity. Examples of business units which are a part of most companies (including subsidiaries) include accounting, marketing, human resources, sales and research, and development.
Subunits do not have a business ID. Accounts in subunits are managed as regular accounts where you can create projects, tasks, track hours, and do more.
Main project and subprojects (Project tree)
You can create multiple subprojects under a main project. You can even create a subproject to a different account than the main project. This gives you the possibility for grouping complex projects containing multiple accounts under one project tree.
Grouping of projects and subprojects
When creating a subproject Taimer will automatically group the main project and subproject together and create a group. The grouping is always for the main project and the first-tier of subprojects. If you create more tiers the same grouping will continue for the later tiers.
Tasks and subtasks (WBS - work breakdown structure)
WBS in project management is a method that breaks a project down into a hierarchy of deliverables, tasks and subtasks. It is a tree structure which shows the subdivision of effort required to achieve an objective.
In a project or contract, the work breakdown structure is developed by starting with the end objective and successively subdividing it into manageable components in terms of size, duration, and responsibility (e.g. systems, subsystems, components, tasks, subtasks, and work packages) which include all steps necessary to achieve the objective.
Grouping of main tasks and subtasks
When creating a subtask, Taimer will automatically group the main task and subtasks together and create a group. The grouping is always for the main task and the first tier of subtasks. If you create more tiers the same grouping will continue for the later tiers.
